Download

The desktop app runs the whole pipeline on your machine — no server, no login, no Docker. It opens on a demo you can read straight away; connecting a model comes after.

These builds are not code-signed

Your operating system will warn you the first time you open it. That is what unsigned software looks like — not a sign anything is wrong with the download. The steps below clear it, and you can verify the file against SHA256SUMS before running anything.

Choose your platform

macOS — Apple Silicon (M1+)

.dmgExtra steps needed

Apple Silicon Macs only (M1 or later). There is no Intel build: on an Intel Mac, run the Docker / Localhost version below instead.

  1. Open the .dmg and drag the app to Applications.
  2. Open Terminal and run the command below, once. It lifts the download block macOS puts on the app and on everything inside it, including the research engine the app starts.
  3. Open Research Assistant from Applications.
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Research Assistant.app"

The app is not signed with an Apple Developer ID or notarized — Apple charges $99/year for that, and this project does not pay it yet — so macOS blocks it until you say otherwise. Versions up to 3.0.0 go further: macOS calls them "damaged and can't be opened", because their signature was incomplete, and the command above is the only way to open them.

Windows

.msiTwo extra clicks
  1. Run the .msi installer.
  2. SmartScreen warns that the publisher is unknown. Click "More info".
  3. Click "Run anyway".

v3.1.0 was published for macOS only. v3.0.3 is the newest Windows build, and it does not have what v3.1.0 added.

Linux

.AppImage / .debNo warning
  1. AppImage: make it executable with chmod +x, then run it.
  2. Debian/Ubuntu: install the .deb with your package manager. No warning to clear.

v3.1.0 was published for macOS only. v3.0.3 is the newest Linux build, and it does not have what v3.1.0 added.

Docker / Localhost

port 3031Containerized
  1. Clone the repository with git clone https://github.com/adityamhaske/Multi-Agent-Research-Assistant.git or download the source .zip.
  2. Run ./start.sh (or docker compose -f docker-compose.full.yml up --build).
  3. Open http://localhost:3031 — the entire stack runs isolated in containers with zero local dependencies.

Runs the complete stack (FastAPI backend, Celery worker, Next.js frontend, Postgres with pgvector, and Redis) isolated in Docker. Host port 3031.

Verify your download

Every release ships a SHA256SUMS file. Unsigned software that also cannot be checked is worse than unsigned software that can — this is how you confirm the file is the one CI built.

sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS --ignore-missing

Would rather not install anything?

The whole stack runs in Docker with one command — see Deployment. Or read what this is for first.
